"Bringing analytical knowledge into the field where hydrogeologic, hydrologic and environmental problems need to be solved."

History
Coble Geophysical Services (CGS) was started in 1994 in Homer, Alaska using funds saved from years of consulting work around the U.S. in the private sector for the international firm Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE). The idea was to upgrade that type of consulting business to using state of the art sensors and measurement techniques to accomplish work with a better understanding – a throwback to Mr. Coble’s academic training. This meant beginning the company with water level pressure transducers that could measure water level to 0.01 feet of accuracy, along with surveying equipment that matched that accuracy. Soon, CGS was known in Alaska for accurate groundwater survey work, shallow geophysical surveys, research and environmental work, and quickly established its presence for specialty work in Alaska, gradually performing work from Southcentral to all over Alaska. Projects have included solving groundwater, unsaturated zone and surface water problems, as well as shallow geophysics and groundwater-surface water interaction. Projects include environmental projects, pumping tests to obtain parameters and well characteristics, groundwater modeling and evaluation of shallow and deep aquifers, solving unsaturated zone and aquifer remediation design problems, implementing enhanced remediation techniques, and hydrogeologic assistance for engineering firms in Alaska.
Geoff Coble
Coble Geophysical Services was first established by Geoff Coble, MS P.G. in 1994 under the name of Coble Geotechnical Services. Local Civil engineer Jack Cushing noticed the company signage and pointed out that nomenclature mattered: geotechnical services was more accurately what he was doing, so shortly afterwards the name was changed to Coble Geophysical Services or CGS, which better described our specialized services.
Upon establishing CGS, Mr. Coble had spent nine years in college including a 4 year research assistantship at the Kansas Geological Survey and already accumulated years of field experience in groundwater, geophysics and environmental consulting throughout the country from Florida to California to Vermont. CGS began centered in Southcentral Alaska and has grown to provide statewide services in groundwater, geophysics and environmental work. CGS includes engineering firms as clients within its specialties, working closely with villages to provide valuable water resource support in challenging environments.
